About Sobha Surendran
Sobha Surendran is a senior political leader from Kerala and currently serves as the State General Secretary and a Core Committee Member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. With nearly four decades of active public life and organizational leadership, she is widely recognized for her articulate public engagement, grassroots mobilization, and consistent involvement in major socio-political issues across the state.
An accomplished author and a respected Hindu spiritual speaker, Sobha Surendran is known for her fiery oratory and commanding presence in public forums. She is regarded as one of the most prominent women political leaders in Kerala, cutting across party lines, and is among the most visible and influential public faces of the BJP in the state.
Background and Early Life
Born in 1974 in Wadakkancherry, in the Thrissur district of Kerala, Sobha Surendran hails from an agrarian family background. Her early exposure to social realities and community life played a formative role in shaping her political consciousness and commitment to public service.
Within the BJP, she has earned the reputation of being a “magic candidate” due to her strong voter connect and mass appeal. She has a notable electoral record of doubling the BJP’s vote share in nine different constituencies across Kerala, a rare achievement in the state’s political landscape.
Sobha Surendran was also the first woman leader from Kerala to serve on the BJP National Executive Committee. In 2019, she held the responsibility of All-India Co-Convenor of the party’s national membership drive, Sadasyata Abhiyan, playing a key role in expanding the party’s organizational base across the country.

Early Political Career
Sobha Surendran entered public life at the age of 13 through the children’s wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bala Gokulam. During the early 1990s, she went on to play an active role in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), gaining early organizational and leadership experience.
Leadership Experience
As State President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Sobha Surendran played a pivotal role in expanding the women’s wing of the party across all assembly constituencies in Kerala. Under her leadership, the organization grew into a strong political force capable of leading sustained agitations and public campaigns.
Her tenure was marked by extensive grassroots outreach, women-centric movements, and issue-based mobilization. These efforts not only strengthened the party’s organizational structure but also positioned her as a powerful advocate for women’s rights and social empowerment in Kerala.
